Why not combine training with a couple of days exploring somewhere new?

Several times a year, Survival Skills goes "on tour" to bring the benefits of our training to riders in other parts of the UK - and if truth be told, to get away ourselves for a few days.

MID-WALES (Montgomery)
PEAK DISTRICT (to be confirmed)
DEVON (Dartmouth)

Locations are chosen so you can ride through breathtaking scenery and experience some of the most technically demanding riding to be found in the UK. Expect steep climbs and decents, hairpin bends, poor surfaces, sheer drops and stone walls.

As part of a group of riders (maximum two:one training ratio) pit your skills against the roads and terrain with expert advice from your instructor. You can choose from the following courses

  • Survival Skills two day
  • Bends one day
  • Double Bends two day
  • Confidence Builder one day
  • Creaky Rider one day
  • Training will be on offer from the Thursday to the following Tuesday with the exception of the Sunday where there will be a recreational ride out. Naturally we'll get together over a meal and a pint each evening.

A new venue for 2008 is the Derbyshire Peak District. There are some great roads up there including the Strines valley road and of course Snake Pass. .

The Welsh weekend stays well away from main roads and passes through some of the most remote and rugged country in the UK. At our stopover in Montgomery there are several hotels within easy walking distance of a number of restaurants and good beer pubs.

Accommodation in Devon will be arranged at a pleasant village inn serving evening meals and breakfast, and of course, fine local ales, or nearby B&Bs. Out on the road,  Dartmoor and Exmoor offer days of exhilarating riding.

I've ridden in nearly every corner of the UK from Kent to to the Highlands and Islands of Scotland - and a lot of western Europe too - and know some cracking roads.

If you want to explore a new corner of our island or nearby mainland Europe and get some top training at the same time, contact me and we'll see what we can put together. Bring along a friend and we'll make a small group of it. You can choose the level of luxury from camping to hotel. Wherever we end up, you'll cover the contents of the Survival Skills advanced syllabus in approximately ten hours training spread over two days.

Please note: these course run May to September and dates may be limited as they must fit within our existing training commitments - the earlier you book the better.

Deserted roads just 50 miles from Calais...If you want to experience driving on the continent for the first time, or you fancy a change of scenery for an advanced course, why not join us on a trip to France! Within 20 miles of Calais there are well surfaced, deserted roads just begging to be explored.

If you haven't driven on the wrong side of the road before, you can chose a one day "Continental Riding Course". You'll be fully briefed on continental riding before venturing onto French roads, and will enjoy a scenic ride as a gentle introduction to riding on the wrong side of the road!

Or if you are already experienced at riding on the right, why not take your one or two day Survival Skills course in France? Do the two day and have an evening meal and night out in France.

Please note: these course run May to September and dates may be limited as they must fit within our existing training commitments - the earlier you book the better.

Flash Tours had their first season in 2003:
"We received groups of bikers to sample the delights, gastronomic and velocipedical, of the region.

"The tours have been a great success, we have made many new friends and put on a few kilos….

"The idea behind the tours was to combine a weekend's stay in a French family home, sampling the local foods and wine, with accompanied ride-outs over three days, taking in the superb roads down here and visiting various places of interest."

"2005 Devon Tour dates get a "highly recommended" from me.

Great roads, a refresher or introduction into so many aspects of survival skills, great beers, an awe inspiring in your ear commentary of what a skilled rider is looking at/thinking about/doing, and great fun."
