Course Summary
If you are a less experienced rider or just want to experience driving on the continent for the first time, then why not do your training on a trip to France?
Within 20 miles of Calais there are well surfaced, deserted roads just begging to be explored.
And with a return trip on Eurotunnel currently just £26 it won't break the bank!
Please note: these course run May to September and dates may be limited as they must fit within our existing training commitments - the earlier you book the better.
Course Content
If you are a less experienced rider who wants to experience driving on the continent for the first time, you can choose a one day "Continental Riding Course".
You'll be fully briefed on continental riding before venturing onto French roads, including a thorough introduction to the mysteries of "Priorite a Droit", whilst
enjoying a scenic ride as a gentle introduction to riding on the wrong side of the road!
Format of the "France" and "Continental Riding" course
Courses can be run on any date when there is free time in Kent. We'll normally check-in at the tunnel at 9:30, with a train out at approximately
10am. We'll use the half hour train journey to have a full briefing about the day's activities, including an audio-visual presentation on riding on the right -
you'll already have received a comprehensive set of notes on the subject via e-mail.
When we get off the train in France approximately 35 minutes later, we'll take a short ride to familiarise ourselves with the basics of French
driving habits, before moving to some quiet and scenic roads for the training proper.
We pause for an hour-long lunch break mid course and a quick hypermarket opportunity, before ending the day back in the UK at 6:30pm. Total time spent in France on the day will be around 7 hours.
You will cover around 100 miles in France per day. On the one day Bends course and the Continental Riding Course, this will be mostly on country roads
, with some nice technical challenges including a number of hairping bends. On the two day Survival Skills course, on the second day we'll take in busy town
traffic and fast roads as well. A short off-road session will cover emergency braking and slow control techniques.
All routes in France have been carefully researched to provide increasingly complex challenges as the course progresses, using a series of loops from
central point. This allows us to adjust the amount of riding to match our progress during the day, so we aren't in a rush for the train at the end of the day!.
Training will usually be on a 2:1 basis, so if you wish to take training with a friend or partner, we will be happy to arrange that.

""Ordinary" training? Well the days in France are Extraordinary Training – it's a lovely day out, apart from an
opportunity to practice skills on the "wrong" – sorry, right – side of the road"
" Kevin's put together a comprehensive and easy-reading briefing sheet for newbies to "le continent" which he sends to trainees in advance
to help them with what to bring on the day and what to expect that's different to the UK. It's very good preparation"
" ...takes you on a good selection of different types of road – the motorway, round slip roads, lots of roundabouts
(some with cobblestones), thru little towns and villages, round hairpins, and all within 25k of Calais... the scenery is lovely – in particular the wonderful coast road from Wimereux back to
the tunnel, which winds its way along the top of the cliffs"
"Honestly, folks, do one of these courses – take your panniers and stock up with goodies and you'll get extra added value from your day, too!"
