These courses are intended to be short "stand-alone" sessions as an inexpensive alternative to our full length courses, and often take place in the evening. Courses will include an element of
"distance learning" to cover theory, allowing the two hour session to concentrate on practical training. Topics include:
Night riding
Planning to ride at night?
Then a Survival Skills night riding course is a great time to get your skills up to scratch, in time
for winter particularly if you're a new rider who's passed their bike test this summer!
These courses run in October and November, and start in daylight to use the transition through twilight to full night, which allows us to adapt to the changing light levels and get used to using
the very different perspective offered by what we can see using only the bike's headlight!
Start times will vary from 5pm at the beginning of October to approximately 3:30pm at the end of November. Finish will be approximately two hours later. Cost - £60 for two hours.
Winter riding
All-weather biker?
The winter riding course covers the "do's and don'ts" of machine control skills required to ride
safely in poor conditions. Assessment of road surfaces, anticipation of problems and strategies for dealing with the particular conditions of slippery surfaces, fog and wind will be explored in detail.
We'll also offer some comprehensive tips on how to stay warm on a bike, including looking at heated clothing, and explain the dangers of hypothermia!
These courses run in October and November (and throughout the winter by arrangement) and last approximately two hours. Cost - £60 for two hours.
Please Note: these courses run from October to March.
Overtaking
Two hours covering overtaking theory and practice. Learn to pick and make safe passes.
Please Note: these courses run from April to September. Cost - £60 for two hours

Slow control
Learn good control at walking pace. Two hours covering slow riding and turning technique.
Collision avoidance
Although it's best to stay out of trouble, sometimes it all goes pear-shaped for the best of riders. Spend two hours covering emergency braking and swerving technique. Cost - £60 for two hours
Group riding
Many club and group rides come to an untimely end after a rider makes a mistake - accident statistics show that riders in groups are at higher risk of an accident than a lone rider. Learn to
ride safely in the company of other riders, and understand how you can avoid the problems of peer pressure on group rides. Cost - £60 for two hours
SuperScooter and Automatic Conversion
Trained on a geared bike but bought an automatic? Bought one of the new breed of super scooters? Take our short session specially designed for commuters who have shifted onto a high
performance scooter and want to learn how to ride it safely and well. Cost - £60 for two hours
Quite simply YOU, the trainee, come first at Survival Skills!
